Alison Smith, Dental Surgery Assistant

Dental Background

My first experience of dentistry was through work experience at secondary school. I attended The Leats Community Clinic in Truro and enjoyed it so much, so when I left school in 1981, I joined Penryn Dental Practice as a trainee dental nurse.

After two years I got married and followed my husband in the Army. We moved back to Cornwall permanently in 1994 and in 1995 I went back to dental nursing.  I have worked in both NHS and private dental practices and have gained 27 years of experience.

I qualified in November 1997 by passing the National Exam for Dental Nursing.

I joined Truro Dental Care in 2016 and I nurse for the hygienist, which is rewarding when you see patients improving their oral health.

In my spare time you can usually find me on my allotment come rain or shine!

After years of anxiously neglecting my teeth, I took the plunge to see Dr. Rainsberry.   She’s very caring and compassionate, gentle and human! Does a great job – I have recommended the surgery to my support group for autistic people who also struggle in medical environments. I will be a repeat visitor until my teeth are at optimum.
