Louise Jefford, Dental Hygienist

Dental Background

I qualified as a dental nurse in 1996 and after 22 years in family-based practice in West Cornwall I was inspired to pursue a change of direction.

In 2015, I successfully won a place at King’s College Hospital London to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy.  Qualifying with the diploma in June 2017 and having been awarded the GSK prize for ‘The Best Student in Child Therapy’ I decided to return home to my Cornish roots.

I have a passion for Dental Hygiene and love getting to know my patients.  I enjoy building a good rapport and relationship with each patient I treat.

I believe that treating people holistically is of great importance in helping them achieve good oral health, and that the key to successful treatment is the education and motivation of the patient to take responsibility for their disease and to then work as a team to manage the condition long term.

In my spare time I enjoy rambling and geocaching in the Cornish countryside, travelling and collecting local art, but my main love is gardening, and when I’m not at home in the garden I can be found pottering down on my allotment.

After years of anxiously neglecting my teeth, I took the plunge to see Dr. Rainsberry.   She’s very caring and compassionate, gentle and human! Does a great job – I have recommended the surgery to my support group for autistic people who also struggle in medical environments. I will be a repeat visitor until my teeth are at optimum.
